Pixels to inches FAQ

What is the formula for pixels to inches?

Inches = pixels ÷ DPI. A 3600 pixel wide image at 300 DPI prints 12 inches wide.

What does DPI mean?

DPI means dots per inch. In print-size planning, people often use DPI and PPI to mean how many image pixels fit into each printed inch.

Can I print larger than the calculator says?

Yes, but the print may look softer up close. Large wall posters are often viewed from farther away, so lower DPI can still look good.
