Why scoop conversions are estimates

Coffee scoops measure volume, not weight. Dark roast, light roast, fine grind, coarse grind, whole beans, and instant coffee can all settle differently in the same scoop.

If your scoop is marked 2 tablespoons, the 10 gram estimate is a useful starting point for ground coffee. If you want the same brew every morning, weigh one level scoop on a kitchen scale and enter that number here.

Coffee scoop and grams FAQ

How many grams is a 2 tablespoon scoop of coffee?

A 2 tablespoon scoop of ground coffee is commonly estimated at about 10 grams. Whole beans are often closer to 9 grams per scoop, and instant coffee may be closer to 6 grams per scoop.

How many tablespoons are in a coffee scoop?

Most standard coffee scoops hold 2 tablespoons. Smaller scoops may hold 1 tablespoon, so it is worth checking the scoop label or measuring it once.

How many scoops of coffee is 30 grams?

Using 10 grams per standard ground-coffee scoop, 30 grams is about 3 scoops.

Should I use scoops or grams for coffee?

Grams are better when you want repeatable strength. Scoops are fast and convenient, but they vary with roast, grind, and how level the scoop is.
